With iOS 18, iPhones Could Get This Helpful Apple Watch Feature

At the WWDC 2024 Event, Apple is scheduled to reveal their next iPhone operating system, the iOS 18. Recently, the enormous verified June 10 is the start date of the event, and it ends on June 14. It is anticipated that Apple will reveal their AI plan, a more intelligent Siri 2.0, and other advancements during this significant event. Apple is now preparing to add topographic maps to Apple Maps in iOS 18, macOS 15, and visionOS 2, according to a new code that MacRumors found.

Topographic maps are currently only available to Apple Watch owners. Topographic maps, which were first introduced with watchOS 10, contain elements like as trails, elevation, contour lines, sites of interest, and other information that improves navigation accuracy for outdoor activities like hiking and camping.

Ever since introducing topographic maps to Apple Watch customers, the company has been steadily spreading this capability throughout the country. Additionally, the behemoth may at last make topographic maps available to customers of the Vision Pro, Mac, and iPhone this year.

When the topographic maps code was made public in 2023, it was exclusive to watchOS 10. It's interesting to note that the code is now active in the backend files for macOS 15, iOS 18, and visionOS 2, indicating Apple's intentions to provide this functionality to further devices.

Custom routes to Apple Maps, a Google Maps feature, may also be included in the next iOS 18. With this feature enabled, users won't have to limit themselves to selecting from Apple's pre-selected possibilities; instead, they may design their own paths.

Given that Google Maps, Apple Maps' main rival, has had this capability for years, the Cupertino behemoth may be preparing to catch up. Users may be able to customize their itineraries or designate certain roads they want to go on with the use of this function.

With iOS 18, it's encouraging to see Apple Maps finally get some attention. On Monday, June 10, Apple will begin its WWDC, when we will learn precisely what the company has in store for its consumers. We expect to see some cutting-edge innovation and intriguing features in iOS 18, which is predicted to be the largest software upgrade in iPhone history. We hope Apple won't let its supporters' lofty expectations fall short.
