WhatsApp Simplifies Group Calling with Discord-Like Voice Chats

WhatsApp often receives updates with new features. In a similar spirit, the most recent upgrade to the messaging app is improving the group phone call function, which is unsurprisingly one of the most popular. Similar to Discord, WhatsApp is now rolling out another enhancement that makes it easier for users to initiate larger group phone calls.

The new audio chat feature, which was revealed via the WhatsApp update channel, would enable users to communicate with group chat participants immediately while maintaining group messaging capabilities. The new voice chat will send out a once it has begun.muted push notification to join all the other users. Compared to a voice call, this will have a less prominent notice. Here, WhatsApp wants to make sure that members of certain groups may communicate with one another without upsetting the others.

As some of you may have guessed, this will function similarly to Discord's voice chat feature. Other members of the group will be able to observe that there are participants actively participating in voice chats after the voice chat is started. They may then participate in the group phone call with these users.Additionally, these voice calls include end-to-end encryption, which limits the call's audibility to the users who have joined. In addition, you won't need to go off the screen to just access the call controls. In 60 minutes, the talks will terminate if the first or final participant departs or if no one enters.

Voice conversations will be available to groups with more than 33 to 128 members, according to WhatsApp. Also, a user's main device will be the only one with access to this function.

In the upcoming few weeks, the updated WhatsApp audio chat feature will be available for both iOS and Android users. Larger groups will get priority initially, and other groups will be added as time goes on.
