Consequently, she chose to follow her son's lead and pursue dragon riders who were not related to Targaryen. Ser Steffon, of House Darklyn, is one among them. Steffon's father, Lord Gunthor Darklyn of Duskendale, was put to death by Criston Cole in episode 4.After swearing to serve as Jaehaerys I's Kingsguard, Ser Steffon was a member of Viserys Targaryen's Kingsguard. At last, he rose to the rank of Lord Commander of Rhaenyra Targaryen's Queensguard, his daughter. Rhaenyra noted that Steffon was descended from nobles and recognized his origins. The Darklyns and Targaryens (like the Velaryons) are said to have had common ancestors in the history books.
