This week, Meta secretly began rolling out its AI-powered chatbot, Meta AI, to select users on Instagram and WhatsApp. I had never used Meta's AI chatbot, so this seemed like a nice chance to give it a try. In addition, I was curious to see what type of usefulness an AI chatbot may give in a messaging app like WhatsApp. I thus provide my first thoughts on Meta AI on WhatsApp today.
A Brief Synopsis of Meta-AlignmentHere's a quick rundown of Meta AI before we get started. This chatbot is powered by Meta's Large Language Model (LLM) research and the generative text model Llama 2.This enables this chatbot to respond to your requests quickly and doesn't make you wait a long time for a response. In addition, Meta has partnered with Microsoft's Bing search to provide up-to-date information during discussions whenever the subject arises.In summary, it can conduct text chats, get the most recent information from the internet, connect to sources, and, of course, it can create photos (more on that later). It is not able to respond to voice cues or receive them, unlike ChatGPT or Google Gemini .
to Access Meta AIMeta AI on WhatsApp may be accessed in several ways. Opening the app and tapping on the Meta AI button (depicted by a blue circle symbol) just above the chat icon in the lower right corner is the simplest method. This will go to the chat room for Meta AI. I thought Meta AI would have a page of its own or something, but it simply gets mixed in with all the other conversations you have on the app. Because of this, it resembles MyAI on Snapchat.Using the search bar is the other method of accessing it. However, only a small percentage of users are presently able to access this option. You may pin Meta AI's chat to have it appear at the top of your discussion page for easy access, of course.The experience is comparable if you have used ChatGPT, Microsoft's Copilot (formerly Bing AI), or Google Gemini (formerly Bard). In a few of seconds, it will provide the answer to your query. Using standard queries like "Write a good morning message to send to my family members" and "What is the weight of the earth," I asked it standard questions. Most AI models on the market today, if not all of them, can readily respond to these queries.To test the accuracy of the information, I even attempted asking some queries about current events, such as "Who won yesterday's IPL match?," and "."Who is set to play the next Superman?", and "What is Selena Gomez's most recent song?" It added links to the sources and responded to them with ease. Given that Copilot does the same function, I believe Microsoft had some involvement in this.I also attempted some creative writing using Meta AI, such as requesting suggestions for potential endings for the Star Wars sequel trilogy or ideas for names for certain pieces I've already written on. I inquired more about the fanfic script with the chatbot, and it cooperated without any issues.We use WhatsApp, so it goes without saying that I had to ask it to reply to some of my friends' messages. It made an effort, but it was unable to provide a suitable outcome since there wasn't much background to work with. One drawback of adding an AI-powered chatbot to a messaging system that has resource constraints is this.Everything That Meta AI Is Capable ofAdditionally, you may instruct Meta AI to produce pictures .and I must add, the effects appear very rapidly. even if it doesn't really match the prompt I gave. I requested it to "show a plane flying over the New York skyline," as you can see from the picture below. On the other hand, it produced a picture of a plane landing on the wing of another aircraft that was passing above Manhattan.In other cases, however, it was able to produce the precise picture I requested. Such as in "squirrel on a skateboard" and "monkey performing arithmetic". In other words, it is hit or miss at first, but it will become better with time. In addition, it watermarks every image it produces in the lower left corner.It is also capable of translating texts, however it has trouble with certain slang terminology, which is not a problem for me. Additionally, you may use it for standard online searches, recipe searches, holiday planning, and other tasks. Testing its limits is your responsibility. And speaking of limits...Meta AI, like its other chatbot friends, won't take advantage of you. It refutes providing answers or producing visuals related to delicate subjects. It had no issue producing religious good morning greetings when I requested it to. However, it declined to produce a picture for me that included a religious idol.When you instruct it to create jokes about certain issues and topics, the same thing happens. It is not as sensitive as ChatGPT, in my opinion. These days, on ChatGPT, even the tiniest hint of such things ends the discussion. I decided not to test the limitations of Meta AI.If, however, you fail to learn, it may block you you . This is what we experienced when Meta AI's profile picture vanished. I suppose it couldn't totally ban the user since we can still have a conversation about it.Before I go, I want to know whether you have ever requested an AI chatbot on WhatsApp. Did you ever find yourself in need of it? I'm assuming you said "no" a lot. It does seem a little out of place, and I agree. It's excellent that it's also being tried on Facebook and Instagram. But WhatsApp is a personal tool moreover, Meta AI doesn't seem appropriate for the platform.As false news spreads more quickly over WhatsApp, Meta's decision to stop the AI from creating specific kinds of photos is a wise one going ahead. My first assessment of the platform is insufficient to capture the inventive ways in which individuals might utilize it here, given its large viewership in places like India. The greatest integration, in my opinion, would be to use it as the app's search engine for fast questions.
