Getting a new phone or having your old one serviced? You might lose all of your mails in the process in either scenario. Thus, you must make a backup of their texts if you want to save them. We'll walk you through a few alternative methods in this post for backing up messages on Google Messages using both in-built and external solutions.
Method 1: Google Account-Based Message Backup
All of your messages will be automatically backed up by the Google Messages app if your Google account is associated with it. In this manner, all of your calls and messages will be restored when you log in to a different device. You may activate SMS backup on your Google account in the following manner.
- On your Android phone, go to Settings > Google.
- Here, tap on Backup or Manage backup option.
- Now tick the box for Other device data. Here, you will see your contacts, call history, and SMS messages.
- Then tap on Confirm to start the backup.
Your communications will remain safe and secure on your Google account when this is finished.
Method 2: Employing the SMS Backup & Restore Application
One of my favorite tools for backing up my data throughout the years has been the SMS Backup & Restore app. You may proceed by simply granting the necessary permissions and connecting the application to your Google account. This is an essential, cost-free substitute. This program may be used to backup Google Messages.
- Download the SMS Backup & Restore app from the Google Play Store.
- Once installed, launch the app and tap on Get Started.
- Now hit Allow on each permission. This is necessary to access your texts and call logs.
- Then, tap on Set Up A Backup. Here, you can turn on the toggle for Messages and Call logs. You can turn off the toggle for either of the two depending on what you want to backup.
- Next, choose where to back up your data. We recommend that you go with Google Drive. You can also go with your phone, but you’ll have to transfer the backup file to export your messages.
- If you selected Google Drive, tap on Log In. Then select the Google account you wish to use and tap Allow to provide the app access to said account.
- Tap on Select a Folder, and choose the folder where you wish to save the backup file. Then tap on Save.
- On the next page, you can set up recurring backups if you want to. Lastly, press Back Up Now.
This starts the process of backing up. Google Drive will be where all of the files are kept. Install the app on the other device, log in with the same Google account, and allow access to the backup folder in order to recover your backup. In only a few minutes, your call and message records will be exported.
You may backup Google Messages in this way. However, Google handles the majority of the backup on its own without your intervention. Nevertheless, it would be fantastic if the app's settings had a different choice. Although there are other Play Store applications that may assist you in getting the identical outcomes, this was one of the greatest choices available. It's also free.
