According to the Corporate VP of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), 2025 and "beyond" will continue to be supported for the AM5 motherboard socket. The newest CPU socket from AMD for AM5 desktop motherboards is AM5. Here's everything you need to know about the AM5 socket to catch up.
The information was obtained from a recent interview with David McAfee, the general manager and corporate vice president of AMD's client computing business, conducted by Overclocker's UK. A number of enquiries about the PC hardware sector were addressed, including talks on the size of the AI market.
The important question was posed to AMD by OCUK later in the interview: "Has the support for the AM5 socket been updated? Is AMD's initial claim that [AM5] would continue to support until 2025 still true?
In response, an AMD representative said, "It absolutely still stands!." Next, he discussed the success of AMD Ryzen CPUs in the market for PC components. AMD credits the previous generation AM4 motherboard platform's overall longevity & support for its success.
AMD is aware of "the impact of moving to a new socket," the representative said." For a motherboard socket that goes beyond AM5, the AMD team has a comprehensive strategy that is "very well thought-out."
We want to continue using AM5 for as long as possible since we are aware of the effects that switching to a new socket might have. We shall see how long that commitment lasts after 2025, but we are resolutely committed to 2025 and beyond. — AMD Corporate VP David McAfee
