Explanation of the Sweet Tooth Ending: Does Humanity Get Well Again?

In Jeff Lemire's novel Sweet Tooth, mankind is being wiped out by a lethal virus known as "The Sick" in a post-apocalyptic future. Some cute hybrid children are introduced to us, such as the pigtail Wendy and the deer-boy Gus. We also get to know some fascinating people, including Becky and Jepperd. Helen Zhang and her troops are hunting Jepperd and Becky in the last season. There was a lot more violence and carnage at the conclusion of Sweet Tooth than we saw in the earlier seasons. Indeed, the virus is eradicated in humans. The solution for "The Sick" was supposed to be discovered in the cave where it all began, according to Season 3. We discovered that this virus was made by an explorer by the name of Thaker, therefore everyone was eager to go there. Dr. Singh went with the deer-boy and Jepp to the cave after seeing in a dream that he would go with Gus.

But after obtaining Thaker's diaries, he turned on the two of them and sided with Helen Zhang. Nuka, Siana's hybrid fox daughter, aids Gus in escaping so that Zhang and her wicked army cannot kill him.

Gus is ambushed by Rosie's fox-hybrid kids while traveling, but Munaq saves him and brings him directly to his cabin, where he meets Birdie again. After some time, Jepp discovers them too, and the three of them proceed into the cave in hopes of discovering the virus' cureā€”for which Birdie had been searching for a number of years. When they get to the cave, they are greeted by an abundance of purple flowers. However, they quickly discover that these blossoms are frozen, making it safe for Birdie and Jepp to enter.

Gus and Jepp are taken prisoner by Zhang, Dr. Singh, and their army shortly after they arrive. Dr. Singh is asked to murder Gus by Helen Zhang so as not to waste any more time. Birdie steps in and absorbs the impact, sparing Jepp and Gus from injury even though he dives in to rescue the kid before the doctor can kill him. She lost her life after the assault. Since murdering Birdie was never the intention, Dr. Singh becomes nervous.

Following that, Gus begins to express his opinion that people are selfish and only consider themselves, and as a result, they do not deserve to live. Zhang hands Dr. Singh the knife and requests that he terminate the hybrid kid and eradicate the infection permanently.

But when she calls Dr. Singh by Rani's name, his perspective shifts and he considers fighting Zhang's troops rather than Gus. Zhang removes the axe from the mysterious tree and begins to drain the sap when he sees that things are going out of control.

She was unaware, however, that taking this action would make matters worse. Every person begins to get the infection. When Gus sees Jepp in that predicament, he becomes enraged and cuts his hands, mixing his blood with the liquid that emerges from the tree. After that, he travels to another realm and encounters Pubba there. He converses with Pubba until the large guy requests that he go back to the outside world. Upon his return, he promptly lights the enigmatic tree, freeing all people from "The Sick."
