Have you previously regretted sending someone on Instagram a hazardous little message? or just attempting to compose a more effective message? It's true that deleting Instagram messages is rather simple. The good news is that Instagram gives you the flexibility to do so on all of its platforms. So, here's how to immediately erase Instagram messages, whether you're using the web, an iOS or Android smartphone, or both!
Is It Possible to Remove Messages on Instagram from Both Ends
?Regretfully, Instagram does not provide a way to remove messages from either party in a conversation. Only messages that you have sent may be withdrawn, and only if you ask the recipient to do so. Apart from that, you are unable to remove messages that you have received on Instagram from other users. Messages that you have sent may be deleted in bulk, although this capability is exclusive to Android and not iOS.
Instagram Message Unsend Instructions
When you unsend a message on Instagram, it disappears from the platform completely, as if it never happened. Additionally, this removes the message from the chat window on both ends. Without a doubt, this is the simplest method for removing an Instagram message.
The approach on the online and mobile versions is a little bit different. See our comprehensive article on how to unsend a message on Instagram if you'd want further clarification.
However, you are not required to resend the message if the error is anything as trivial as a mistake. Alternatively, all you need to do is edit Instagram messages. If you would like to look at it, we have included a link to our special guide on the subject.
Android-Only: How to Delete Several Instagram Messages for Yourself
Android users may now enjoy the feature of simultaneously deleting numerous messages in addition to the option to unsend texts. Note that it does not, in fact, unsend them. Rather, all of the messages that you and the user have exchanged are removed from your side of the conversation. Now that you have it out of the way, here's how to proceed:
- Head into the Instagram chat you want to delete messages for.
- When in the Instagram chat, long press any message that you have sent and tap on More from the popup menu.
- Then, select Delete for you from the list of available options.
- That will summon the message selector. Select as many messages as you want to delete for yourself in the chat.
- Next, hit the Delete for you button at the bottom which also shows you the number of messages you have selected.
- Finally, in the confirmation window, select Delete for you again, and that’s it.
Enable Instagram's Vanish Mode
The Vanish Mode conversation feature on Instagram functions similarly to Facebook's Disappearing Messages feature. When activated, once the receiver sees the message, Vanish Mode immediately deletes the message or messages. Moreover, messages are immediately removed from the chat window when the receiver exits.
Given that it also alerts you to screenshots, this is an excellent tool if you want to provide your communications an additional degree of security. It also eliminates the inconvenience of having to remove messages by hand. Check out our specific tutorial if you're wondering how to switch on Vanish Mode on Instagram.
Remove Chats on Instagram
We discovered while testing that you cannot remove Instagram messages sent to you by another user from the chat window. Alternatively, you may remove all of the messages from both parties by deleting the whole conversation. It may be done as follows:
Regarding Android
- When in your Instagram Messages panel, long-press the chat that you want to delete.
- Select Delete from the list of available options that show up.
- In the confirmation window, tap on Delete again and that’s it.
Regarding iOS
- When in Instagram Messages, right-swipe on a chat.
- Then, tap on the three-dot menu that shows up.
- Tap on Delete and in the confirmation window, hit Delete again. That should do the trick!
