Lately, WhatsApp has been adding a lot of new features to the beta version. We just discovered that WhatsApp is preparing to enable users to customize the colors of their app theme shortly. In addition, the introduction of the WhatsApp multi-account support function was a significant step toward improving user experience. According to a recent WABetaInfo report, Android users will soon get access to a plethora of additional WhatsApp text formatting features.
A few new text formatting capabilities are included in WhatsApp's newest beta release for Android, version 2.24.2.9, according to the most recent report. Android users of WhatsApp may now include code blocks, quote blocks, numbered lists, and bulleted lists in their messages by utilizing these text formatting capabilities. This expands on the formatting possibilities already available in bold, italic, and strikethrough.
As the picture above illustrates, you may use this capability by employing certain formatting syntaxes or shortcuts. Here's a little explanation of how it will operate:
- Code Block: Inserting “`” before and after a sentence will convert your text into a code block on WhatsApp.
- Quote Block: For inserting a quote block, you will have to start and end a message with the “>” symbol.
- Ordered lists: Meanwhile, for ordered lists, you will have to use either the “-” or “*” symbol before a sentence to instantly create a bulleted list. For numbered lists, you can just type in the specific number to start creating the list.
There have been rumors about this feature coming to WhatsApp for a while now; as early as August 2023, reports began to surface. Another report from October 2023 said that WhatsApp's online and mobile app versions were undergoing testing for this capability. Additionally, we discovered an official WhatsApp support website that already lists all of these formatting possibilities while we were designing.
The additional formatting choices are available to certain beta testers using the most recent 2.24.2.9 version. That could only indicate that a stable update including this feature is on the way very soon.
Furthermore, you may use similar text style choices outside of private conversations. They may also be useful for conducting chats about work. These new text formatting choices for WhatsApp will enable users to "effectively communicate technical details or complex information with precision," according to the study.
